If someone was dishonest & sent you a rude email then decided to withhold feedback would your first response be to leave her *positive* feedback?????

Someone tell my husband to be less nice.

Half watching

Filed under: Today today - Administrator @ 10:32 pm

POC (the second one) not really paying much attention. I’m on day 6 of my cooking strike (I’m not preparing food for anyone except Jasper until Claudia stops complaining) - food is a major power thing with her and I’m not playing along anymore. Either she gets what Simon cooks or she has Weetabix three times a day.

We didn’t do much today. Jasper banged his head about 5 times :( (more crawling attempts), ate a whole avocado, banana & toast - I love watching him eat he clearly enjoys it so much (still no teeth yet) - and slept for all of 20 minutes. Claudia watched Over the Hedge & we watched High Society together. We read - she read some fairy tales & I read her some books about Egypt. She measured things. Bounced on the trampoline. Did some Hama beading. Gave Jasper a bath in the sink :) and knitted a lot.

I’m having oversupply issues again - can you believe he is nearly 8 months & it still hasn’t settled down? Apparently it can be more common in women with PCOS. It was similar with Claudia but she fed more infrequently than Jasper, she *never* comfort fed which J has started doing recently. His feeding hasn’t reduced at all despite vast amounts of solids & water with meals ho hum. The lack of periods is bothering me - I’m in limbo & am putting off making any serious contraceptive decisions. As much as we would love more children I feel hugely ambivalent about the whole thing. Life is just wonderful atm, Jasper & Claudia seem perfect, his birth was brilliant, I *hate hate hate hate hate* ad infinitum being pregnant (although really J was totally uncomplicated and may well have been nice if I wasn’t such as basket case), I don’t want to have to go back on steroids (injections are fine but I hate the steroids they make me deranged) and the last miscarriage was far too awful to be repeated.

Anyway, no particular reason for the introspection, it certainly doesn’t suit me :) Keira Knightly is even skinnier than she was in the first film.

Lurverly Designers’ Guild fabric - colour is a bit dodgy but I’m too drunk to adjust it.

What Simon said to me …

“I had to spurt in case he came up my arse.”

Can anyone hazard a guess as to the context?

… it’s a table … clearly I’m the Best Mother Ever.

Weather is shit. Haven’t done much. Eaten pizza. Watched Fry & Laurie (see below). Sent C to bed at 5pm becaue she was FOUL - she slept for 4 hours and was much nicer.

Planning to make sitting room blinds tomorrow.

Papier Mache, Snails & Egypt

(it’s a guinea pig ;) )

Claudia has been having a lot of nightmares recently and is in with us again - amazingly she slept until after seven this morning. She’s been fascinated by a grammar book we’ve got & I was woken up by it being thrust in my face, I was a little less grumpy than usual.

I’m trying to remember what we’ve done today - the guinea pig obviously, C’s played Sims & Pharaoh on the computer, made some ‘perfume’ from my roses (grrrr) and checked her snails (she’s been trapping them to see if they mate); they’ve had the train set and the farm animals out. Jasper ate a lot of falafels and Claudia made her own lunch (pita bread, cheese and a tomato (which ‘aren’t disgusting’)) . Our avocados from weeks ago have germinated and Claudia’s in particular is doing well - looked in Linnea’s Garden to see what we are supposed to do with them next. I managed to get the washing done & hung out and water some of my pots. We gave Jasper a ’shower’ out in the garden to de-slime him after breakfast was very entertaining & he really enjoyed it :) Jasper watched half an hour of Baby Einstein - I hate putting it on - but it gives us some peace and quiet so C can read to me (he still doesn’t really nap).

Claudie finished the 5-6yo mental maths book (days of the week & telling the time), did some Miquon and started the next Singapore (subtraction word problems - something has clicked because they weren’t as nightmare-ish as they usually are), read a bit, did some phonics & DWN. We read the Earth From The Air books - lots of discussion fodder there - talked about countries & continents, alphabetical order, how to use a dictionary, what circuit board components she wants to buy, what independence is, erosion, magnetic poles, the weather in Connecticut, how salt kills animals and plants, why her mud bricks (we have a large hole in the garden) collapse, what different parts of the plant do, why people don’t believe her when says she’s home educated, what Darfur is (isn’t Radio 4 great) and what clothes she wants to buy ;) I made her cry by telling her she needs to pay more attention in swimming lessons :( We read the myth of Osiris & Set; C did some colouring, a SOTW map of ancient Egypt and a narration about King Narmer & the Double Crown. I’m exhausted.

I did a reception and KS1 literacy assessment with C & was pretty pleased; the only dodgy areas were some of the longer vowel sounds - which are coming - and a few words from the KS2 reading list (months of the year mainly) which she’s never come across before.

Jelly Legs was this afternoon & while C was there I went to the library to have a look for some readers she might like - got some Leap Frog Fairy Tales and a lovely book with pictures of life on the Nile. Then I took Jasper to have his feet measured (purely out of curiosity) - he’s a three and a half - mooched around John Lewis (didn’t buy anything) and WHSmith (bought a magazine) and fed the pigeons. Simon picked us up to save my feet - something bad has happened to my trusty Crocs and I have horrid blisters - must buy new shoes. C & J watched a bit of Ice Princess and read Who Built The Pyramid? (well J chewed it), complained a lot (because I dared to have a ‘phone conversation) and ate fish cakes & asparagus for dinner. I got the video camera out & filmed them being silly - Simon & I have been watching all of Claudia’s baby films recently, she was such a cute baby ;)

We were debating camping this weekend but the forecast doesn’t look good (it’ll probably be packed as well) so the plan is too tidy up the garden, get all the toys out again (we’re going to get a trampoline ;) ) and go to the British Museum at some point. Si has never been and I haven’t been since I was at university.

Jasper can drink from a straw. He’s 9kg (back up 75% centile, the diet of whatever he wants all day & boob (sorry A) all night seems to be working), passionate about food and looks spookily like Claudia at that age.

Why this in’t a home ed blog.

Filed under: Not HE - Administrator @ 7:18 pm

Despite the ballet reprieve I’m in a shitty mood; very, very irritated. (BTW where is my period??? I feel like I’ve had PMS for the last 6 weeks).

This blog has bits of my life, things that I want to remember or feel like saying at a given moment in time. Home edding isn’t my life.

There are many people who I like (adore ;) ) & respect who HE but I don’t (have never) buy into the HE community idea and may I be struck down if I ever say I HE because I cosleep, breastfeed & use cloth nappies (WTF does that have to do with my children’s education?), or whatever else seems to ‘naturally’ (blerch) lead to HE. I’m not interested in whether people do those things or not - as Claudia gets older it becomes ever more apparent that most things don’t make that much difference.

As far as the educating bit goes - P1’s disclaimer sums it up:

“I am putting stuff in this blog that I think you will be interested in, from an HE POV, and things of which it’s useful for me to keep track. It is not supposed to be everything ‘educational’ that my children do, it’s certainly not going to contain every question they ask or conversation we have, and it does not in any way imply that I value the aspects of their learning which I blog any more highly than those I don’t. ”

Of course I don’t write things that will be of any interest to anyone except me & sometimes Si ;)

Nuff said now where’s my knitting? (Which I don’t blog about either in a probably futile attempt at maintaining some anonymity, the interweb is full of nutters you see).

ETA: I’ve just been thinking about why I’m so annoyed & I sense a blog move coming. I get bored of things too quickly.
