Is this for real?

Only 20% of people feel safe in their homes at night? Why?

It’s dreadful, I don’t think I’ve ever felt unsafe even when living in some very ‘bad’ areas. Why are people so scared?

We had a HP fest yesterday. That was fun.

I spent the evening drinking, knitting & musing on whether the internet has reduced people’s capacity for IRL interactions - does a mutual vomiting of angst, swapping of birth stories & navel gazing constitute a friendship?

Or am I just cynical? (bit obvious that one ;)

Simon watched Hot Fuzz.

  1. I have still only managed to watch half an hour of it.

I heard the story on Today this morning - it doesn’t surprise me at all. The trouble it that Joe Public are living on Daily Mail island sitting in fear of being murdered in their beds by a bunch of marauding hoodies/gypsies/muslims/gays/lesbians/pole/asylum-seekers/benefit-fraudsters. So they wring their hands that they are unable to defend themselves or their property from these assailants in the way they would like to (all guns blazing like their hero Tony Martin) and cling to their baseball bats and golf clubs hoping for a change in the law that will allow them to kill anyone who crosses their threshold without an invitation. They also blame the whole situation on EU human rights legislation and Tony Bliar (see what I did there, what that a witty little pun) and long for a government that would make everything better by withdrawing from the EU, closing the borders, “repatriating” anybody who can’t trace their lineage back to Alfred the Great, re-introducing national service and corporal and capital punishment, re-criminalising homosexuality, bringing back imperial measurements and er… re-introducing pre-decimal currency.

…but that’s just my opinion - I may be reading a bit too much into it…

  4. bizarre - I gave up keeping a hockey stick next to my bed when I grew out of being scared about doctor who and those spooky grey aliens who teleported, attacked and then disappeared again….come to think of it, wonder if I’ve still got a hockey stick?

  5. I keep a metal bar next to my bed. It only concerns me when I am home alone.
